Have you ever wondered why the glass on your fireplace gets dirty?

Even though its appearance doesn’t affect how it works, it can certainly be an eyesore and even make it harder to see the fire. Below, we explain the reasons why your fireplace glass might accumulate dirt and how to prevent it.

Reasons why your fireplace glass gets dirty

If the glass on your fireplace gets dirtier than usual, it’s most likely due to one of the following:
Damp firewood: If the firewood you use contains moisture, the water that evaporates when burned will produce a lot of smoke, which sticks to the glass and blackens it. Ideally, firewood should be stored in a covered and well-ventilated place so it can dry out and stay protected from rain or humidity.
Green wood: This refers to wood that contains a lot of resin or has been recently cut. The sap or resin contributes to the blackening of the glass.
Poor or insufficient draft: If your fireplace doesn’t have proper draft, the combustion of the wood won’t be optimal, and smoke will be evacuated very slowly. That’s why it’s important to trust specialists for the installation to ensure proper draft, as well as regular maintenance and chimney sweeping.
Incorrect fireplace lighting: If you light the fireplace and immediately close the door or the air regulators, you’ll be cutting off the oxygen necessary for combustion. The excess smoke that results will end up staining the glass.
The fireplace doesn’t have a clean glass system: The clean glass system is a technology that creates a screen of hot air between the glass and the fire. This prevents the smoke from coming into direct contact with the glass, keeping it clean. Carbel fireplaces, for example, feature this system to enhance your enjoyment of the fire.
If you take these factors into account and clean the glass of your fireplace from time to time, it will maintain its appearance so you can enjoy the fire in your home without any issues.

Would you like to know how wood can help you reduce your energy costs every month? Keep reading and don’t miss a thing!

Why Installing a Wood Heating System Is a Smart Choice

There are many reasons to install a wood-burning heating system, but the biggest advantage is the cost savings:

✅ Wood is an affordable energy source – In recent months, energy prices have reached record highs, especially electricity and gas. However, wood has remained much more economical. For example, the cost of one kilo of firewood is around 20-25 cents.

✅ Modern wood stoves and fireplaces are highly efficient – The latest models allow you to heat more with less wood, meaning you can warm entire rooms and homes using much less fuel than in the past. This translates into even greater energy savings.

Wood-burning stoves with an oven offer extra savings – Not only do they heat your home, but they also allow you to cook using fire and embers, helping you save on electricity or gas for cooking.

Aside from the cost benefits, installing a wood-burning stove or fireplace offers other advantages:

Do you know what vermiculite is and why it’s used in stoves and fireplaces?

Do you know what vermiculite is and why it’s used in stoves and fireplaces?

Thinking of Installing a Wood-Burning Stove or Fireplace? Here’s Why Vermiculite is a Great Choice

If you’ve made it this far, it’s probably because you’re considering installing a wood-burning stove or fireplace in your home. Like everything else, these have evolved over time, incorporating new materials into their composition. One material that has gained significant popularity in the industry is vermiculite.

Keep reading to learn more about what vermiculite is, along with its properties and advantages.

Properties of Vermiculite

Vermiculite is a mineral composed of iron, aluminium, and magnesium. It has unique properties that have made it one of the most widely used materials in the industry, primarily due to its excellent insulation and heat-reflecting capabilities.

Thanks to its composition, vermiculite is highly fire-resistant, which is why it is becoming increasingly common as the main interior lining material in stoves and fireplaces. The vermiculite panels placed inside the combustion chamber create an insulated space that helps retain heat.

Advantages of Vermiculite

  • Improves efficiency – Vermiculite reflects heat back into the combustion chamber, maintaining a stable temperature and reducing heat loss.
  • Saves fuel – By retaining heat more effectively, less fuel is required to keep your home warm.
  • Brighter combustion – Its light colour enhances the brightness of the flames, creating a more visually appealing fire.
  • Highly resistant – Being fireproof, it withstands extremely high temperatures without damage.
  • Easy maintenance – Cleaning and upkeep are simple and cost-effective.
  • Lightweight yet dense – Despite its low weight, it is still highly durable, reducing the overall weight of the fireplace without compromising strength.

As you can see, fireplaces with a vermiculite-lined combustion chamber offer numerous benefits compared to those that don’t use it. If you’re looking for a high-performance, efficient, and durable fireplace for your home, a vermiculite-lined model is an excellent choice!
